When We Are Closed

If you need to see a doctor urgently when the surgery is closed visit 111 online where your symptoms will be assessed and you will be referred to the most appropriate service. If you don’t have access to the Internet, then call 111 where you will be put through to a 111 Health Advisor, provided by DHU Healthcare who provide the out of hours service on behalf of the Derbyshire County Integrated Care System. They will discuss your concerns and symptoms with you before providing you with health advice or, when appropriate, they will refer you to the right service your needs. This could mean passing a message to the Doctor on duty who may phone you back to assess your problem. you might be asked to attend one of the DHU Healthcare out-of-hours clinics, or receive a home visit if this is clinically appropriate.

Out-of-hours services are generally busy so please be patient and the 111 team will get to you as soon as possible; please treat them with the respect and compassion that they will provide to you. To help reduce pressure on the services, please think carefully before asking to see a doctor and only do so if you genuinely cannot wait until the surgery re-opens.

gency you should call 999. Chest pains and/or shortness of breath constitute an emergency.

If you need medical advice whilst we are closed, you can also try:

  • Visit the self-care hub on our website for adults here and for children here
  • Visit your local pharmacy who can give advice and prescribe certain medications where appropriate. Find your local pharmacy here
  • Visit an Urgent Treatment Centre (UTC). In Derbyshire, our UTCs are located in Buxton, Ilkeston, Ripley and Whitworth Hospital and are open seven days a week, between 8am and 8pm. UTCs can assess sprains, strains, cuts, broken bones, fractures, stings, bites, wound infections, minor head injuries, minor burns, animal bits, minor eye injuries and infections.
